1. Kapuzinerberg (a hill with views of Salzburg)

Salzburg Travel Guide Kapuzinerberg

We think a great first stop in Salzburg should be at Kapuzinerberg. Kapuzinerberg is a hill on the eastern side of Salzburg's Salzach River. It is a little bit of a hike to make it to the top, but worth it for the views.

From the top of the hill, there is a lookout point where you can get spectacular views of Salzburg.

2. Getreidegasse (famous shopping street)

After Kapuzinerberg, we recommend making your way to Salzburg's Old Town (Altstadt). When you enter the old town, be sure to wander around Getreidegasse. The name translates to grain alley and is Salzburg’s famous shopping street.

While wandering down Getreidegasse, you will run into Mozart’s birthplace (Mozarts Geburtshaus). The famous composer was born on the third floor of No. 9 Getreidegasse in 1756.

4. Cafe Konditorei Fürst

Also located on Getreidegasse at the end of the street, you can find Cafe Konditorei Fürst. Cafe Konditorei Fürst has the world famous Salzburger Mozartkugel (Mozart Balls).

After trying the chocolate balls, you can make your way to University Square. University Square is the market square in Salzburg.

We came here to try a pretzel from Salzburger Brezen. Salzburger Brezen sell many different types of pretzels. Ours was a bit dry, but we have read reviews that this stand has the best pretzels in Salzburg. These pretzels were the size of my head.

One pretzel is € 3.90

6.  Residenzplatz (Residence Square)
